ANON ASKED ALATT - (TL;DR, I want to get my MLIS, but boyfriend+logistics+life decisions) Talk to me about pros and cons of doing your MLS online-only vs. in-classroom, please? And about how graduate school affected your relationships? I took some online courses during undergrad and I feel that I perform better in an on-campus, live setting. If Im going to pay for school, Id like to get as much out of it as I can (GAships especially). I would rather attend on-campus. However, I am afraid it would negatively affect either my partners career or our relationship. We have been together for five years, lived together for the past year, and are beginning to talk about marriage. We both finished undergrad two years ago. Getting my MLS is important to me, and he is a wonderful partner who is very excited about and supportive of my educational goals. However, I am concerned about what he will do if I am accepted to school. I moved across the country with him a year ago for the job he currently has. He is now starting to look for his next job. He works as a newspaper photographer, and unless he could find a job in the new college town, I am afraid that we would have to physically separate if I went to grad school because his job market is very small and competitive. Would it be worth it to take the MLS online even though that is not my first choice to avoid separation, or would it be better to focus on school and try to catch back up with him in two years/hope that he can find something nearby wherever I go to school?
