ANOTHER LESSON FROM KING SOLOMON: Respect for elders is not old - TopicsExpress

ANOTHER LESSON FROM KING SOLOMON: Respect for elders is not old fashioned, it is not just cultural it is also Biblical. It has been generally observed that people dont consider it important to respect those who are older than them as culture dictates. Can you imagine Solomon with all the splendour of his majesty, despite the riches, wealth & authority he had he was able to stand up from his royal throne to receive his mum. He even bowed down to her!!! Some people wouldnt do that, a lot more would think about it but they will not want to be perceived as belittling the mighty throne or position. Thinking! No wonder, it wasnt difficult for Solomon to worship God in ways that received heavens attention. He translated his respect for God to respect for men & vice versa. Read with me a short passage that confirmed my assertion. The point of interest here is not the issue that took Solomons mother to him nor the resolution of the matter but how he received her. When Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him for Adonijah, the king stood up to meet her, bowed down to her and sat down on his throne. He had a throne brought for the king’s mother, and she sat down at his right hand. (1 Kings 2:19 NIV) Respect for elders is not old school, neither does it minimise your authority. We are called to be transformers & not conformers. Thats a tall order in this depraved generation, but God is able to empower us to do that which he expects us to do. Solomon was indeed a wise man! May Godly wisdom & the spirit of discernment be released on all who desire it.
