ANOTHER PAGE...For Esther Milton, one of the original ones who supported my writings from day one and to my encouraging friends. Thanks; Eric sat on the bench fuming over Sabrinas not meeting up with him as they had planned. It was her off-day and hed called her three times but the calls kept going to her voice mail. Women, he thought, had as much, if not more, game than dudes. This chick had been acting funny toward him for the past two days and his wife, the mother of his children, had given up a long time ago on any reconciliation between the two of them. They shared space and bills only for the sake of having their children in a two-parent home but he didnt see the benefit of living like that. He thought it would be better for them to live separately but love and share the children equally. But, no, she wouldnt hear of it. Tawanna could be stubborn when she wanted to be. Actually, it was her stubbornness that kept them shackled in marital misery. A smile spread across his face as a gentle breeze from the lake caressed while he watched the various ducks waddle past him. He absent-mindedly calculated that in a couple of weeks or so a line of cute, yellow ducklings would be trailing their mothers. Damn, he said out loud as he crumpled the Sports section of the paper hed been reading, dunking it in the nearest trash bin, whats taking that broad so long? If she was trying to play with his head, it was working. When he met Sabrina Albright in the emergency room of Childrens Hospital where she worked as an RN he had no idea that more than two years later he would still be with her. She had grown on him in a comfortable kind of way. And, before her, staying faithful to a side chick wasnt his thing. Hed been into hitting it and keep it moving. And women, no matter how modern or chic they tried to be, were typically dramatic. Either by nature or by design. They would sign on in a relationship as understanding partners then flip the script when a dude least expected it. But not Sabrina. Sabrina was modern. She knew how to hold her man without making him feel captured. Knew how to treat him like a king. And, she knew how to torture one without much effort. Thats what she was doing to him right now. He had been waiting for her to drop a bomb, to tell him she felt like she was being used by him, to claim an unreciprocated emotional attachment to him, labeling it love, but she hadnt and that made him wonder if she had strategically dropped her crumbs to snag him. Or maybe that was just his playahs way of viewing their relationship. From the start he had told her he would not leave his wife and she was cool with that. She didnt place any pressure on him. Never questioned him about where his time when he wasnt with her or his wife. He laughed then looked around to see if anyone had noticed it. Because the last thing he wanted to do was look like a crazy Black man sitting alone on a beach in front of a lake. Another thing about Sabrina, when he first met her she didnt cook or watch sports but the more they got to know each other, the more she relaxed and started cooking meals. It took him about seven months to get her in bed and almost a year and a half to get a key to her place. But right now she was pissing him off. For the past two days she had been acting strangely detached and when he would ask her, Baby, whats wrong? shed shrug her shoulders and try to act like everything was alright. Well, it wasnt. Otherwise, he wouldnt be sitting here waiting on her ass. As he pulled his coat together and prepared to leave a policeman arrived on the scene. Oh, crap, he thought, Im not in the mood to be harassed (Gary Houston). Have a great day, all!!
