ANOTHER VIEW OF UKAMBANI AND COASTAL POLITICS I thank all of my friends for their inputs which I put together here. Thanks too, to those who edit and make it more presentable. Ask me and I will say we are engaging in unnecessary expenditure on politics to dismantle and install new political order in Ukambani and at the Coast. This is unnecessary cost. It is a cost. We can do better. Hon. Kalonzo says “we” can see a rat from afar. I do not want to dispute his assertions, right or wrong. The issue should not be the “Smelling” but what kind of smell is of the rat. He is a poor analyst, and both him and the Sponsors of the political upheavals in Ukambani and the Coast all they want is engage the rank and file party members and the population in a political and election moods. Both should have spared the general population these dramas. This is not what Kenya needs most! The electoral map in Kenya is ethnic and out. It can hardly be changed overnight or over a cup of tea/coffee. It will take time and much healing for it to change. It is a sin to lie. I believe taking advantage of Kalonzo’s weaknesses in Ukambani to weaken him further will not change this ethnic electoral map. I speak from past experiences. After the 1992 elections, former President Moi and KANU engaged in an elaborate plan to lure the former Crntral vote to its side through development projects. In fact Kiambu District had more new school and related projects than the entire Ukambani, and Women Groups congregated severally at KICC to be issued with land title deeds. Of course, the State is entitled and is expected to do this to its people. Development is a positive thing. The people too are entitled to gladly receive the services from the State. That is the work of the State- to protect and prosper its people. However, when it came to the 1997 election, there were no more additional votes in favour of the former president and KANU. In the current scenario in Ukambani and at the Coast, the happenings do not guarantee more additional votes for the incumbent come next elections no matter the level of expenditure and activity. In fact moves to heal and make the Kenyan society more cohesive divorced from the desire to dismantle old and install new political dispensation in Ukambani and at the Coast would be more appropriate and with higher positive dividends than the purely current political crusade. The Hons. Gideon Mung’aro –K. Chidzuga-Khatib Mwashetani- experimentation will be without much wind in its sails soon. The issues of the people are not adequately and effectively addressed. Rival rallies, a show of relevant entourages and meet the people with preaching is not making a difference in the people’s lives. A different people driven, not politics, strategy would have done much good. Come to Sultan Hamud, either side f the railway line and the scornful glee of having Dr. Alfred Mutua as Kalonzo’s replacement in Ukambani will be obvious. I do not hate Dr. Mutua. I support the little development he has overseen, whether sponsored by the rumoured Central Kenya tycoons or not. We may deride Kalonzo as less development minded but the truth in this arrangements is that Dr. Alfred Mutua cannot unite Ukambani and Kenya; or guarantee Central its need to have Ukambani votes added to them. It is far much easier to do away with Kalonzo in Ukambani than have Ukambani vote for a man from Central Kenya. The distrust is so high. They coil under the thought. They remind each other of a rumour from last year’s activities towards elections that the people told former president Kibaki that “people from Central” can never “give” their votes to a person outside their circle. So, why place so much faith on the power of self-delusions and bribery? Why have a budget to change this scenario rather grow the people? The talk from Central Kenya that it will support Ukambani after the Hague proceedings are concluded is not only reckless but also without the interest of this State. Dr. Mutua is but just a hot air balloon. He will burst soon like a bubble no matter the financial and organizational muscle behind him. He will not get far with easily excitable and camera loving character. I can beat him hands down on national appeal and the need to have Ukambani votes safely under me. I mean well for Kenya. I can deliver. Work with me and you will get a better Kenya. We need to build one Kenya, prosperous, peaceful, and cohesive across its entire people full of joy and mutual respect. We have made the presidency, surrounded in a “security agencies’ myth”, an everlasting IDOL, a false goddess we submit ourselves to; a goddess we are willing to lie, maim, and weave a costly deceptive web of actions.
