ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT THE ADRIAN PETERSON MONEY - TopicsExpress

ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT THE ADRIAN PETERSON MONEY SITUATION....Jared Allen in his final year with us, was over $17M cap hit. We paid him. Take a look at APs contract details, see attached. His cap hit is over $15M in 2015. If we paid Jared a worse cap hit than that for one year, why not do that for AP? Even if its only for 2015...is it not worth at least one year of seeing what he can do with Teddy? If we have no other way of making that happen? In 2016 and 2017, APs salary is more crippling...the cap hit in 2016 is $15M again, and then it goes up to $17M in his last year. In 2016 and 2017 it becomes a bigger problem because we will have some of our best young players due new contracts and will have other needs, and its not hard to see how continuing to pay AP at that level, will cripple the chances of us keeping a good team around him. Maybe if we agreed to pay him in 2015 if we have no choice, things will work themselves out, we can see what Teddy can do with AP running angry in the backfield, and APs mood may change to be willing to restructure the rest of his contract. I dont see how 2016-2017 can ever be allowed to be paid the way the contract shows it. Especially with no dead money in the cap space if we cut or trade him in those years. But biting the bullet and paying him for 2015 if necessary might be the way to go...are you listening Rick? Well, it does not matter, Rick is a smart cookie and knows how to weigh the options.
