ANS FOR PREVIOUS QUSTION : (B) Congenital hypothyroidism may be associated with prolonged neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, either indirect or mixed. The indirect hyperbilirubinemia is due to impaired hepatic glucuronidation of bilirubin and to enhanced enterohepatic circulation of bilirubin secondary to decreased intestinal motility. The mechanism of the mixed hyperbilirubinemia is uncertain. Hypothyroidism also can be associated with anemia and impaired renal function, but these are mild.
