Agitation to oppose reservation for OBCs may lead to the same situation in education as has happened in politics. The Supreme Court, on 12th August, 05, gave a judgment in the case of Inamdar that the state can not impose reservation in private aided and unaided medical and engineering colleges and universities. To nullify the effect of the judgment, the Parliament made 104th Constitutional Amendment. On 5th April, 06 the HRD Minister, Arjun Singh, told the media about implementation of reservation for OBCs. For a week and so there was no agitation but some one instigated students to go for agitation. The ground of opposition is about merit and economic criterion. So far, more than 80% seats in these courses are available on merit basis, then why have they not produced a single ‘invention, ‘Research’ and ‘Technology’. There is no reservation in games, yet our country of hundred crores population has not secured a single gold medal in Olympics. Blaming reservation for dilution of efficiency and merit has no force and , in fact, it is entirely selfish thing not to share the fruits with deprived. If opponents are really serious, they should have opposed the admission in Medical and Engineering colleges on capitation fee basis. Doctors employed in rural areas, hardly serve over there and prefer to stay in the cities, isn’t it degrading the profession? Nursing homes are charging high fee, not sparing even poor. this is the real blot to fight against. First use IITs where the govt. spends on an average 2 lakhs per student per year, then they condemn the facilities available in India when they are to take up jobs in Silicon Valley for earning dollars. It is better to oppose bluntly rather than under the pretext of merit. Mindset got revealed when doctors protested with brooms as if this job is for dalits and OBCs. Thus no respect of labour. Lack of dignity of labour has failed India in every field. India in every field. We cite example of Europe and USA for most of the things like work culture, discipline technology, financing management but avoid social obligations borne by industries and educational institutions there. In fact, affirmative action is, needed more in India than in USA because caste is worse than apartheid. There are 75 chief executive officers from among blacks in US and on the contrary there is no dalit in India. Harward University is considered to be Mecca of knowledge where, in Medicine faculty, affirmative action is up to 50% in favour of blacks, women and Asian. Ethnic Origin, yet it enjoys highest standards and has contributed maximum. Nobel laureate. Whites are satisfied with remaining seats and proving themselves and that is the spirit needed over here, unfortunately it is missing.. The objectives of reservation are not mainly to eliminate the poverty but bringing closer warring groups with each other. Visionary framers of the Constitution based it on educational and social backwardness. Wherever caste contradiction is sharper, dalits and most backwards are taking up guns in their hands and joining the bogey of Maoists, leading to bad law and order situation. Merit mongers should realize that in these circumstances neither the quality educational institutions are possible and investments. Who will be finally the loser, definitely-merit mongers. In Delhi, the total seats in all five medical colleges are 360 and 27% is bagged by OBCs, it is not going to disturb the scenario of unemployment among UCs where total population is more than one crore. An illustration of Michigan University will reveal the largesse of whites of USA. In June 2004, a black student secured admission in law college with less marks and was challenged by the affected white student. Almost all universities and industries defended in the Supreme court in favour of black student and finally his admission was justified. There is murmuring that if foreigners were given these seats, that could have been welcomed and today’s opponents might have boasted that even foreigners are looking towards India. Every society which has progressed, is known for adjustment and for sharing its wealth and respect. In 1902, Shahuji Maharaj introduced reservation in Kolhapur estate and, of course, estate of Mysore did the same; still standard of education and administration is better in south India than north India, thus it proves that sharing with deprived does not hamper the quality and efficiency but creates conducive atmosphere. Now it is being failed that the reservation will stifle the growth of India. In fact, there is latent and unconstitutional reservation in knowledge, status, spirituality, wealth and this is still far more powerful than the constitutional one because man is governed by more social traditions and customs than the state law. No doubt, dalits and backwards are not fit for entrepreneurship compared to Baniyas, the latter were trained and groomed in centuries. If dalits and OBCs are not given opportunities, they will remain behind in future as well. Admitteldy, IITs and IIMs like institutions have produced good engineers and business managers who are capable of taking up good jobs overseas and in private companies; the money earned by them has hardly to do with the growth of economy except to help their kith and kin. Private sector is better than they are which without using much resources of the govt. contributes more to the growth of economy. In fact, it is not merit and efficiency, which is at peril but the interest of elites of UCs. Actually, elite doctors and engineers are not fighting for their society but for themselves. Their agitation may lead to chain reaction on the other side and finally different warring groups create the situation where the govt. jobs and seats in the institutions proportioned according to population of each caste. At present even after reservation, the UCs will enjoy 50% of the seats and that is enough to prove their merit and share the fruits.
