AOL Can Read Your Mind When You Watch Its Ads AOL unveiled a new platform that enables brands to measure not just whether people are exposed to or even see their content on their TVs, but how they actually feel about it. The platform, which is being introduced by AOL branded entertainment unit Be On, utilizes users’ own webcams to read their facial expressions while watching a commercial in order to understand their unconscious feelings while exposed to a brand’s messages. Why This Matters: Last week, Rep. Michael Capuano (D-Mass.) introduced a bill that would require cable, satellite and telco video distributors to inform viewers if they’re being watched or analyzed by their TVs, and give customers the option to opt out.
