. (AP) Multiple sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have identified former Nebraska quarterback and current Liberty Flames head coach Turner Gill as the target of Nebraskas head coaching search to replace the fired Bo Pelini. According to multiple sources, Gill has agreed on the general framework of a deal with an annual salary to be near the $3,000,000 paid to paid to Pelini this past season. He will continue to coach Liberty throughout the FCS playoffs, with the Flames having defeated James Madison on Saturday. Final contractual details, the sources indicate, will be discussed after Libertys season concludes. The Flames take on Villanova this weekend. According to one of the sources, agreement has already been reached for Gill to bring current defensive coordinator Robert Wimberly for the same position at Nebraska. The source also indicated that Gill would seek to keep some of the present Nebraska assistant coaches, noting specifically assistant running backs coach Ron Brown, a long-time Gill friend mentor. Liberty Athletic Director Jeff Barber and Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst did not return calls seeking comment.
