APA ACT are pleased to announce our first workshop following our launch. Have you ever thought of a career in the area of development? Well this is your chance to listen to our notable speaker, Ms Cynthia Ojiambo, share her experiences on how to launch a career in development including how to break into the field, the qualifications and skills required, specialisations and emerging career trends in the industry, the aid industry and Africa and the work that AusAID is doing in Africa. VENUE: The event will be held on Wednesday 24 July 2013 at the Griffin Centre, 20 Genge Street, Canberra. TIME: Please start arriving from 5.30pm for a 6pm start. BIOGRAPHY OF SPEAKER: Ms Cynthia Ojiambo is a development specialist with over 10 year experience in the Pacific, Asia and Africa. She has expertise in policy development and program management and evaluation. She has undertaken assignments for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and is currently on assignment in Kenya for AusAID. She is currently Officer in Charge of the AusAID funded program Australia Awards (Africa) and oversees the program’s implementation across North, East and West Africa. Australia Awards is a scholarship program which provides opportunities for Africans working in the Public Service, Civil Society and private organisations to study for Masters degrees or attend Fellowship programs. The aim is to build capacity at the policy level so that beneficiaries can come back and contribute towards development in their own countries. Cynthia has been involved in various Australia Africa initiatives including Australian African Business Council (Canberra Chapter) where she served has previously served as Secretary; and the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific, (Secretary). In addition she is also one of the founding members of the ANU African Students Association. An experienced trainer and facilitator, Cynthia is passionate about people development and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and experiences with the APA .
