APC, AJIMOBI UNDER FIRE... #As Senator Condemns Oyo Candidates’ Poor Performance at SSSCE# The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Hosea Agboola, has attributed the poor performance of Oyo State candidates in the last Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSE) to the nonchalant attitude of the state Governor, Senator Isaq Ajimobi, to provision of standard education infrastructure, which he said were in tatters. A release by the Chief Press secretary of the senator, Mallam Adebayo Muritala, Agboola said that the failure of the Oyo State candidates in the examination has betrayed the deceit and paying of lip service to qualitative education. He noted that Oyo State was at the rear of all other South-West states in the examination performance scale, while the state came 21 among the 36 states in the country. He said dilapidated classroom blocks, inadequate benches and desks were the hallmark of the Oyo State government’s unseriousness on the provision of education for the younger generation. He observed that no government that claimed to be people oriented would toy with the education, which is platform for providing qualitative and robust manpower for the future. Such a lofty idea would only be an unrealized dream if enough teachers were not employed to give the pupils qualitative education as it is the case in Oyo State today. He lamented a situation where parents-teachers associations, in various secondary schools, have to employ teachers for subjects which the state government have no teachers for. Senator Agboola wondered how any responsive government would expect a stellar performance from pupils tutored in an atmosphere that is not conducive to learning . He stressed that education should not for whatever reason be regarded a game of chance. The future of any country belong to well-educated citizenry, Agboola insisted
