APC, PDP bicker over alleged plan to cause mayhem in Osun OSUN State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, weekend, traded words over alleged plan to cause mayhem and make the state ungovernable. While the APC accused PDP of planning to cause “sustained mayhem” across the state to make the state ungovernable for governor Rauf Aregbesola, the PDP said it knew nothing about such plans, but only interested in reclaiming alleged mandate given to its candidate in the August 9 governorship election. The APC in a statement by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi in Osogbo, claimed that the party got the intelligence reports through insider sources within the PDP. According to APC, “the PDP leadership in the state is already arranging for hundreds of youths to be transported to Abuja to protest the victory of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in the August 9 governorship election. This protest will be based on the yet-to-be- substantiated allegation by the PDP that the Independent National Electoral Commission colluded with the governor and the APC to “rig” the August 9 election. The underlying theme of the Abuja protest by the PDP will be that INEC gave the election to the APC to prevent President Goodluck Jonathan from winning the 2015 presidential election. So the protest will be effectively against INEC and APC.” PDP in its reaction through the publicity secretary, Prince Bola Ajao, described the allegation as ridiculous and out of tune with reality, saying, “as a matter of fact, we are civilised people who are always in tandem with due process and rule of law. We are at the election petition tribunal and we are sure that with all the unassailable and incontrovertible evidences on ground, we would retrieve the mandate given to our candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore by the people. “Unfortunately, this mandate is being held on to by Aregbesola because of the large-scale electoral fraud and anomalies that characterized August 9, 2014 governorship election. This cork and bull story is not own portion. We would do everything legally possible within the ambit of law to retrieve this mandate. “The APC and its leadership are pathological liars. If they are sure that their illegitimate mandate is genuine, they would not be cooking up unfounded allegation that lacks basis. Let them continue. It is clear and evident that APC are hand in gloves with INEC to thwart the desire of Osun people. Even, from the ongoing inspection of election materials, it is obvious that they are collaborating to perfect sinister agenda.” Meanwhile, APC is to call 600 witnesses in the petition by the PDP, governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore, challenging the August 9 governorship election, won by the APC. The statements of the witnesses were filed along with the reply of the APC, which is the second respondent in the petition. Senator Omisore is challenging the re-election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola, claiming the election was marred with irregularities. The lead counsel to the APC, Mr. Kunle Adegoke who filed the reply on behalf of the party and Governor Aregbesola, said clients were asking the tribunal to dismiss the petition of PDP and its candidate for “it is baseless, frivolous and contentious.” He disclosed that the reply of APC contained 257 pages where explanations were offered in the local governments being challenged by the PDP. According to him, “in our reply to the petition we have about 600 witnesses that we have prepared their statements to counter the allegations of the petitioners. Our reply is to the effect that the allegations raised by the petitioners are completely frivolous, baseless, vexatious and constitute abuse of court process.
