APC SECRETARY IN COURT FOR ASSAULT By Alusine Kargbo Abu Bakarr Kamara alias Lamtales was on 22nd July 2014 arraigned before Magistrate Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens on allegation of assault occasioning bodily harm. The accused is standing trial for assaulting one Mrs. Doris Donkor, a worker for Healthy Life, a resident of 54 UN Drive, Wilkinson Road in Freetown. Doris Donkor in her statement informed the court that on Tuesday 1st July 2014 at 25 Wellington Street in Makeni at around 6:30 pm, went to demand the sum of Le 80,000 payment from the accused wife, Mariama. On arrival, the complainant went on to explain that she met Lamtales outside his residence and complained that his wife has to pay her. She further explained that the accused that is also the All Peoples Congress Deputy Organizing Secretary led her inside the house when she demanded her money which Mariama paid unwillingly. Doris further explained that as she was leaving the premise the accused followed her and demanded a receipt. ‘‘It was at this point we exchanged words resulting to the accused punching me on my body where I sustained injuries and reported the matter to the Mena Police Station”, the complainant explained. Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dominic Conteh made an additional charge of wounding contrary to section 150 of the Criminal Procedure Act No. 32 of 1965. The Prosecutor explained that the medical endorsement indicates wounding and appealed to the Magistrate not to grant bail to the accused but the Magistrate granted the accused bail. The matter was adjourned to 23rd July 2014.
