APC names interim Leadership Today. As part of measures to formalise its registration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the three merging parties forming the All Progressive Congress (APC) may name its interim management committee today. Chairman of the merger committee of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and former governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau had on Sunday in Kano said the leaders of the party will come up with the names of its interim leaders within 24 to 48 hours. Shekarau said the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), as well as his ANPP party had reached a consensus late last week, to appoint the national chairmen, secretaries and treasurers of their respective parties as members of an interim management committee to handle the registration processes, adding that the nine principal officers had been directed to meet and select a chairman and secretary from among themselves between Monday and Tuesday. Our correspondent learnt that the nine man committee met last night in Abuja to formalise the arrangement and that it would make public its conclusions today. The merging parties met for two days last week behind closed-door for a ‘special national caucus’ at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja to fine tune details of the merger which they hope to submit to INEC soon. The meeting was attended by all governors of the merging parties, the leadership of the various committees on the merger set up by the respective parties and the leaders of the parties.
