#APGACrisis: Police Stump Factional Chairman Maxi Okwu’s Attempt To Take Over Party Secretariat An attempt by Maxi Okwu, factional Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance to forcefully take over the national secretariat of the party on Wednesday night was thwarted by the police. In the latest drama in this seemingly never-ending saga. the FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu – of Rivers fame – directed Okwu to wait for the appeal filed by Chief Victor Umeh challenging the decision of an Abuja Federal High Court which had ousted him, the National Secretary and his entire executive from office. Mbu reportedly told Okwu that there was no place in Justice Abdul Kafarati’s judgment which empowered them to take over the party’s headquarters, rendering their actions illegal. He then directed him to withdraw his people from the party’s national headquarters to avoid a breakdown of law and order. The bizarre set of circumstances began when Okwu stormed the party’s secretariat on Wednesday evening with a retinue of thugs at about 4pm in a convoy comprising three coaster buses and other vehicles, but was met with some resistance from the Police Superintendent in charge of the secretariat, Mr. Otobo Anthony. According to the police officer, “I’m legally posted here on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) through the Commissioner of Police, FCT. We are not taking sides, but all we are saying is that we can only allow you if there are clear instructions from our boss to do so.” After some arguments, they were able to enter the premises after beating some secretariat staff and playing loud music while at it. Okwu was however summoned by Mbu who ordered him to remove his thugs and wait for the outcome of Umeh’s appeal. Vanguard
