ARCT has successfully participating in the UNDP Training of Trainers (13 – 19 November 20140 dedicated to the rights and obligations to be fulfilled within the framework of the UN Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. (ARCT) is currently implementing a project dedicated to the improved human rights practices for persons with mental problems in closed mental health care facilities through community mobilization, aiming to address the identified inaction of authorities to perform deinstitutionalization (moving people from mental hospitals to home-like facilities) and establish proper and meaningful community-based services, so that the people kept in psychiatric hospitals are not forced to live in institutions where life is far from wholesome. Although with legal safeguards regarding right to life and security, torture and discrimination prohibition, there are no administrative and legal safeguards which advocate for meaningful rehabilitation (while medication remains the sole treatment).
