Although it is a word that is usually associated only with an infectious disease – one that is caused by pathogens, the world today is creaking under the strain of another kind of epidemic, one of our own making - Diabetes. Diabetes needs no introduction to most of us. It is estimated that in the US alone there are nearly 26 million people, affected by diabetes. This is nearly 8.3% of the whole population, but even this does not give you a true picture of how widespread the disease has become.
