ARE YOU THE MESSIAH? One of my role model John F. Kennedy said, My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. Same is applicable in Onne. I ask again, Are you the messiah? Let me travel to the book of Mathew 11, is a popular and life changing passage. It reads, 1. After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee. 2. When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples. 3. to ask him, Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else? Eldon Tanner says that “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on earth.” Service, empathy, synergy, and intrinsic security are the key words. George Bernard Shaw writes: “This is the true joy in life- being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one... I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die. For the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It’s a sort of splendid torch which I’ve got to hold up for the moment and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.” Each day we are offered a chance to impact society, we have to decide whether we want to present society with a kinder gentler human experience,or a fear driven divisive one. We are contributing either way,one toward a better world, one toward wa warring world. Good governance we clamour and sole wish for does not exist in isolation. I still seek for one who cherish Onne, and will forfeit the aim of acquiring postions and embezzeling community allocations. If you are the one then even our ancestor wont let you fall without a helping hand. Should i say we need a revolution. But if i say that who then is ready for the change? If yes, who should the change start with; me? Oh no, you? i dont think so. But i think everyone because were guilty of what is happening. How? the way we abuse ourselves, the way we sell chances that belong to the less priveledge, the way we allow for early marriages and not encouraging the youths to pursue and commit unto the best. Do you know what? I dont wish to say it, but it is imperative i do in this article. We dont love the progress and development of our fellow brothers and sisters. We open our yanch to strangers in not pressing matters. We think of ourself not the community. We forget to think of creativity and innovation. But have you ever ask yourself, what if the companies decide to move from Onne? Is not possible. I know that was the reason i said, imagine it happens. No matter what we are chasing in life, the time for our youth is the energy we have, but vanity it will be if we are chasing vanity, because we would have used our youthful age for nothing. My love for Onne is beyond my reasoning, but what else do I have to reward the land that births my aspiration. Our problem is not good governance but good conscience. If your conscience is good then good governance becomes inevitable. In conclusion, let the one who has not killed a rat rule. Long live my family (Ngeda family), Long live Ekara, Long live Onne!
