ARGENTINA has passed a law stating that all public transport and stations must display the inflammatory slogan: ‘The Falklands are Argentinian’. The new regulation was approved unanimously in parliament last night after it was proposed by MP Teresita Luna. In a letter to the president outlining her call for the law, she said it would ‘generate a permanent reflection on our undeniable sovereignty over the Falklands’. She added: ‘It is directed not only at the foreigner who comes here as a tourist or visits our country, but also at the citizens in general, and will serve to reinforce our history, our culture and our identity.” The law means all vehicles on road, rail or water – plus aircraft – must be marked with the phrase. A campaign in Argentina laying claim to the islands has been stepped up this year. In July, its football chiefs were fined £19,500 by the sport’s governing body after their players posed with a banner. In September Jeremy Clarkson and his Top Gear team were attacked in Argentina over a car with a number plate H982 FKL, said to refer to the 1982 Falklands War. So long as they dont try and land those planes on The Falkland Islands or the UK they can slap slogans all over them. Its ours and its staying ours.
