After God had appeared to Abraham for the second time, he built an altar and sacricifed an animal and worshipped God.In addition, Abraham erected several altars thereafter.Gen12:7,8;13:4,18. Lesson1 .What was the significance of the altar ? What was true to Abraham is also applicable to us. God had told him that he would inherit Canaan therefore the altar ; 1 showed his acceptance of Gods promise and gift, 2 was a declaration of his complete trust in God , 3 marked his presence and inheritance in a pagan land, 4 demonstrated to the pagans the true God and Abrahams complete detachment from idolatry, 5 became a meeting place between humanity and Jehovah, 6 was a confession of his inseparabilty from the heavenly council, 7 became a pillar of his faith as it could be erected with stones, 8 was a unifying worship center to all his household for he had many servants, 9 became a revival center where his household rediscovered the spirit of oneness, moral equality before God, the need for human interdepedence and the community spirit, 10 became personal and intimate as he touched it, saw it, built it, killed the animals and smelt the sacrifice, 11 was a place where sorrows and burdens were laid down, fears were disclosed, joys were expressed, tears shed and faith was affirmed, 12 became Gods command center, 13 became a point where God spoke and man listened. My dear brother and sister, your altar of prayer is as important as it was to Abraham. Build yours today and all the time, anytime and anywhere. All the 13 points may apply to you if youre serious about your salvation.
