ARIZONA LEADERS HOPE TO SNARE BIOFUELS FACILITY Specializing in a patented algae technology platform used in the production of biofuels, the Fort Myers, Florida-based Algenol Biofuels announced late last year that it may open a new commercial facility in another state. The company opened its primary headquarters in a 43,000 square-foot building in Florida in 2006 and currently has offices in Germany and Switzerland. In recent months public officials in Arizona have launched a campaign to get the company, whose biofuels are used in ethanol, to set up a plant in their state. In a public letter to the company, signed by the Arizonas Congressional delegation, it is noted that if Algenol Biofuels does decide to build in Arizona, the company would have unrestricted access to the states business-friendly regulatory structure. The company, which has a customer base located in Mexico and South America and is projected to produce up to 20 billion gallons of ethanol a year by 2033, has not yet announced where it will locate its new facility.
