ARU have agreed to sponsor a number of activities tailored for Tas Rugby over the period 31 August to 2 September in Hobart and 3-4 September in Devonport. The outline of these activities the ARU will conduct: 1. A Foundation Course for Match Officials (MO) and Coaches that are interested in gaining their Level 1 qualification (9AM to 5 PM on Sunday 31 August @ Hutchins School, cost $80 and will need to register with Mark Oakford); 2. A high performance coach and MO session for senior representatives focusing on advanced coaching theory and tactics (6-8PM on Monday 1 September @ Rugby Park & 6-8PM on Wednesday 3 September @ The Don, Devonport); 3. A youth 7’s talent discovery night (U19 YO players only) that is set to both develop the kids playing rugby and to attract youth from other sports (6-8PM on Monday 1 September @ Rugby Park & 6-8PM on Wednesday 3 September @ The Don, Devonport); 4. A Non-Contact 7’s Primary School Gala Day that will be coordinated by Christo LeGrange to attract the younger children to a new derivative of the game recently launched by the ARU around Australia (School hours on Tuesday 2 September @ Hobart - venue TBA? & school hours on Thursday 4 September @ Devonport venue TBA?); 5. A Junior Gold Coaching Session that is for all Tasmanian junior players (U19 YO players) and their coaches (6-8PM on Tuesday 2 September @ Rugby Park & 6-8PM on Thursday 4 September @ The Don, Devonport); 6. A MO Empathy and Escalation Session for all MO at any age to gain a better understanding of the ARU referee profile (6-8PM on Tuesday 2 September @ Rugby Park & 6-8PM on Thursday 4 September @ The Don, Devonport); and lastly 7. A Referee Education Session that will cover the basis of refereeing focussed on officiating kids games (only at 6-8:30 PM on Thursday 4 September @ The Don, Devonport). This demonstrates a significant commitment from the ARU staff to assist us in our endeavours to improve our standard of rugby across the board. So I would compel you to actively canvas all your contacts to get maximum participation at every activity in your region. Also if you have contacts at your local school, I would ask that you get behind Christo to help promote this great game into our primary schools via the Non-Contact 7’s derivative of the game. Also please spread the word and seek out kids from other sports, particularly from the touch football communities to come along to the Youth 7’s Talent Discovery Sessions.
