AS PDP FAITHFUL GO TO WAR SATURDAY Today Saturday November 29,is a day of judgment in the political timetable of the ruling party, PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, PDP. It is a day that would determine how the party would fare in the 774 Local Government Areas in the next year general elections in Nigeria.The outcome of the tomorrows event would go a long way in determining the success or failure of the party in 2015.It is a day political players and onlookers alike have been waiting to come, anxiously. Barring die minute change of date, tomorrow would witness the house of assembly primary elections of PDP in every LGA in Nigeria. It is a day that would witness the emergence of 774 candidates who would have the honour and burden of bringing electoral victory to the party come February 28,2015. Tension, intrigues, permutations, stakes, pressure and commitment are high. Lots of monies have exchanged hands in preparations to this day. A lot of promises have been reached, why many of them would either be fulfilled or broken, many have before been broken. One thing is certain tomorrow, there would be losers and winners. Why the winners are expected to be magnanimous in victory, the process of the tomorrows exercise would determine If the intending losers would accept it in good fates. If the delegates election does not gives room for fairness, equal opportunity and transparency, surely those rigged out must revolt. How successful PDP as party would be in 2015 would be determined on how it conducts it primary elections. If the party wants to have a wonderful outing in 2015,It must make internal party democracy its watchword. There should be nothing like anointed or Abuja aspirants. All aspirants should as matter of expediency and in conformity with internal party principles,insist on free, fair and credible processes. The party should equally deemphasize money bag politics.The success or failure of an aspirant should not be predetermined by how much he shares to the leaders and delegates. Individual credibility, antecedents, track records of achievements should be placed high and above pecuniary interests. PDP should also remember that for the first since 1999 It would be facing the strongest opposition in general elections. APC is not a pushover in 2015,so the earlier the ruling party recognizes this and present credible people for the general elections, the better for them. As PDP stalwarts go to war tomorrow, the players should remember that there is life after the primary elections. They should not exhaust all their energies in fighting internal disagreements,altercations and battles. The interest of the party should be placed high above selfish interests. Internal crisis has always been the clog to the wheels of progress of PDP.It should at this point in time do everything humanly possible to make sure It does not play up again.
