ASA/ HEMP and origin of Tamagushi ...at the Shinto Jinja we are using Asa/ hemp every day...since ancient time hemp has been cultivated in Japan, particularly Shikoku where highest quality Asa is grown for use by Koshitsu Shinto/ associated with the Emperor and the Jinja (shrine ) Shinto....golden fibers of asa are used for Harae gush/ purification wand and for Tamagushi for special high vibration paper and for clothing——this is the warm season at Tsubaki America Jinja so the natsu hakuii & sashibakama/ summer season kimono like garment and wide pleated trousers are made of asa/ hemp fibers. Tamagushi (sacred evergreen branch) comes from two words, Tamashii (soul) and Kushi (skewer/connect) the meaning of offering the sacred branch of evergreen is to connect your Mitama (soul) with Okamisama. The tamagushi has the shide (folded paper helix) as antennae for divine Ki---- attached with asa-himo (inner fiber of hemp bark) as hemp fiber is straight and golden like the Ki of Okami. The origin of tamagushi comes from the time Amaterasu Omikami (Kami of the sun) secluding herself in the Ame-no-Iwa-ya (rock dwelling/cave) to avoid further contamination/ impurity after the encounter with her brother Susanao-no-Mikoto. The result was terrible for heaven and earth...Takamanohara the High Plain of Heaven was obscured---with purifying sunlight removed from the Earth Plain many misfortunate occurrences arose.....all the heavenly Kami cooperated together to bring about the return of the source of light.. Ame-no-Koyane- no-Mikoto and Ame-no-Futo- Dama-no-Mikoto assembled the prototypical Masakaki as an offering by collecting two 500 branch true Sakaki from heavenly Kagu mountain.. hanging the divine jewels in the upper branches, the divine mirror in the mid branches and cloth offerings on the lower branches. ...the ancient texts deal with the actions, objects and potentialities assembled in great detail...... the Sakaki trees themselves were the archetypical Tamagushi or offering of evergreen branches to the divine ......for this reason Ame-no-Futo- Dama-no-Mikoto is considered as the originator of the Tamagushi...
