ASABA-POLICE in Delta State have trailed the alleged kidnap kingpin, Ifeanyi, from Onitsha in Anambra State, who escaped from police cell in Asaba, about a fortnight ago, to Cotonou, in the Republic of Benin. "The police in Delta state traced him to Cotonou, but they could not locate him. The exercise was frustrated, however, the search for him is on," a reliable security source told Vanguard, yesterday. Commissioner of Police in Delta state, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed to Vanguard that police traced the suspect outside the country, but declined to give details of the operation. He, however, said police were closing in on the escapee suspect. According to him, "We have made some arrests in respect of his escape, we have picked up some persons in Owerri and Asaba and I can tell you, we are closing in on him." However, a source confided in Vanguard: "I think that Ifeanyi might not have travelled out of the country. He had gunshot wounds and I doubt if he would travel out with those wounds. He could be using foreign number to make calls to make it look as if he is outside the country. "It is to make the police to beam their searchlight outside while he is inside. They should comb everywhere for him, he is trying to be smart. I know Aduba will not give him such opportunity."
