Its no doubt that in the desire to renew the liturgical practices of the church, The Constitution of Vatican Council 11 stated, The two elements which are especially characteristic of lent...the recalling of baptism or the preparation for it, and penance...should be given greater emphasis in the liturgy and in liturgical catechesis...it is by means of them that church prepares the faithful for the celebraton of Easter..THE LENT AND THE REST OF US... We were taught in the seminary during our days at Okpoma, by one of our formators, that lent is the opportunity to change what we ought to change but have not...lent is about becoming, doing and changing whatever it is that blocking the fullness of life in us right now...lent is a summons to live anew.. Although the observations and practices may have evolved over the years, THE FOCUS REMAINS THE SAME; TO REPENT OF SIN, TO RENEW OUR FAITH, AND TO PREPARE TO CELEBRATE JOYFULLY THE MYSTERIES OF OUR SALVATION...By doing these, HIS VICTORY on the cross, is our renewal, our SPRING...which is the meaning of the Anglo-Saxon word, LENGTEN or LENT.
