ASIA PACIFIC: TOWARDS BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE SECURITY ARCHITECTURE....!! Continued uncertainty or any confrontation in the ASIA-PACIFIC is clearly in no ones interest as it will affect Major Powers attempt to restructure their economies and revive growth. Besides, any major conflict would roll back gain to each of our countries of 40 years of stability and peace (and make it another West Asia - where we find endless, relentless, and meaningless conflicts.....!) 1. Technology and Politics have eliminated distance and separation between Powers; for we now speak ASIA-PACIFIC as a geopolitical unit, and not of: i) EAST ASIA (JAPAN, NORTH KOREA, SOUTH KOREA, CHINA, TAIWAN, MONGOLIA) ii) SOUTHEAST ASIA (MYANMAR, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, INDONESIA, BRUNEI, LAOS, CAMBODIA, VIETNAM, PHILIPPINES), and iii) SOUTH ASIA (BANGLADESH, NEPAL, BHUTAN, INDIA, SRI LANKA, MALDIVES, PAKISTAN, AFGHANISTAN). 2. It is the simultaneous emergence of several Powers that has built pressure for a new equilibrium and balance. 3. Rapid economic growth in the last few decades has given several States in the region the means to militarily strengthen themselves. 4. The reformers seek more International Cooperation and are committed to international values and solutions; while the conservatives seek to recover lost territory and status (imagined or real), and seek a position of Regional dominance, or hegemony, or in some cases as a Superpower. Hoping that ASIA-PACIFIC does not witness any major conflicts....!!!
