ASSISTANCE WITH HEALTHCARE - Please Read I have the most rewarding job. I am a Certified Application Counselor assigned to assist consumer with enrolling into Affordable Healthcare through the Marketplace. However, if a consumer presents with other life challenging issues, I choose to help them in those areas too. This past week I had the opportunity to assist three individuals without healthcare insurance that fall into the Medicaid Gap because our state chose not to expand its Medicaid program. My first client was paying $163 for one medication and I found a program that reduced his payment to $15. I then assisted him in submitting an application for his Social Security Disability benefits. My second client had costly medical supplies that were running low and no way to purchase them. I was able to enroll him into two programs to receive a free 6-month supply. My third client was homeless and living in an unfavorable situation. I am praying that she will be accepted into one of the two homeless shelter programs that we submitted an application too. I have the honor to work with an up and coming advocate for patient’s healthcare, Jessica Coleman a recent college graduate. Absorbed all the knowledge you are learning from Katherlyn and me. This knowledge cannot be taught in a classroom because you must have a loving heart filled with compassion to help others who feel all hope is lost. To everyone who took the time to read this post, help is available for you too if you are without health coverage or know other individuals without healthcare. Even though open enrollment has ended for the Marketplace (Obama Care), you may still be eligible to apply for a Special Enrollment Period if you had a life-changing event, i.e. lost your job that offered coverage, recently released from prison, divorced, etc… Approximately 800,000 Tennesseans may still qualify for TN Medicaid. You can apply for TN Medicaid at anytime. Who may be eligible? Children and teens up to age 19 Parents of children 19 and under Pregnant women People with disabilities (currently receiving SSI benefits) Youth “aging out” of foster care U.S. citizens and certain lawfully present immigrants may be eligible There were two seminars held this month explaining the facts about the Marketplace (Obama Care) and TN Medicaid. Only four people attended the seminars. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge— Hosea 4:6.” I will post the dates for our next seminars so you can be knowledgeable of the healthcare choices available for you too. Have a Blessed Week!
