ASUU STRIKE AND GOVERNMENT GREED. It is regrettable to note that the status of education in Nigeria under the so called democratic regime is even in a much worse position now, than it was under military regimes. The situation of our public institutions in Nigeria is persistently relegated to the background and their status were grossly under- rated by government. The IMF and World Bank already designed an educational Blueprint for Nigeria, which translated into poor funding of education activities in the country. Instead to concentrate on providing the best education and infrastructural development to citizens, govt at all levels in Nigeria changed the polity into that of ethnicity and religion to divert attention from their incompetence, lack of capacity and looting of the treasury. The UNESCO Recommendations of 26% allocation to education sector in the national budget of developing countries was totally dumped by Nigerian govt. The country is just too capitalistic to the extent that some of our countrymen and women have own private planes, which the cost of each can build a university! It is not a crime to own private planes, but what kind of a system has enabled an individual to own a private plane and another individual in the same country cannot afford to buy a bicycle? We have a situations where National assets, like our oil fields are being given to close members of the government; some of them quickly sell it for two to three billion dollars. There is nothing wrong in making alot of money, but not at the expense of the nation.
