ASUU STRIKE SHOULD BE A BLESSING TO NIGERIAN STUDENTS My fellow Nigerians and students, we are the leaders of tomorrow and the future of Nigeria. Education means literacy, that is ability to read and write which i believe most of us in higher institutions can do, so no matter what, we should never get frustrated or concede failure due to ASUU or ASUP strike, which is currently ravaging our education sector, remember No Pain, No Gain we should be able to make sacrifices for a better future and our younger generations and i believe that our future should depend on God, hardwork, talent, innovation, creativity and ability to identify and explore opportunities around us. Many of us keep saying that our Lecturers and Professors are on strike for their selfish interest but do you know that if they fail to make these sacrifices for us, who will? Which means our educational career is doomed meanwhile, the only thing that bridge the gap between the rich and masses/ poor is education but; 1. Do you know that inspite of our pride as University and polytechnic students, No Nigerian University is among the Best 1000 Universities in the world and best Fifty in Africa, yet the Richest Black Man and Woman in the World are both Nigerians( Dangote and Alakija)? 2. Do you know that failure in our education sector is improving the economy of Ghana as Nigerians spend over $1 Billion annually on their childrens education in Ghanaian Universities? 3. Do you know that the Ghanaian currency, The Cedis was about 10,000 Cedis to $1 as 2007/2008 but now about 1.79 Cedis to $1 as at 2012/2013 just because of good leadership and sacrifices they made which has led to improvement in their economy yet, these were people Nigerians chased away sometimes ago with the slogan Ghana Must Go? 4. Do you know that the greatest men and women of our todays world didnt wait to have a Bsc. to achieve their greatness, people like Bill Gate, Mark(Facebook), Mrs Folorunsho Alakija(Fashion Designer), Micheal Jackson, Micheal Jordan, Akeem Olajuwon, Bishop Oyedepo(HND - Designed & Built The Largest Church Auditorium without a Pillar in the World with over 50,000 Sitting Capacity), Tiger Wood, Dangote, Iheanacho & Alampasu(Golden Eaglet), Omotola(HND), Genevieve, Nkem Owoh(Osuofia), Wizkid, 2Face, Usein Bolt, Phillip Emeka Emegwelu(Designed Fastest &largest Computer in the World) to mention just a few but could read and write like most of us? 5. Do you know that during this period of strike as an Undergraduate studying: a. Medicine/ Nursing:- You could go to any hospital, clinic or health centres etc to gain more practical experiences and ideas to help you in your career instead of staying idle at home? b. Pharmacy:- You could go to pharmaceutical companies or local herbal centres to learn alternative/ herbal medicine which, is the secret behind the chinese and indian medical successes? c. Art/Communication:- You could learn acting, editing, make up, continuity, lighting, editing, cinematography, painting, etc for practical knowledge before resuming back to school which will give you innovative concepts just with your student I.D Card? d. Engineering:- You could go to local Radionics, Electronics, Electricians, Mechanics, Plumbers, builders etc to gain .more practical experiences before your graduation? e. Management/Social Sciences:- You could join Auditing, Marketing, Advertising, Stock broking, Estate Management and other related firms to gain more practical experiences and innovative concepts which will help you by the time you are graduating? f. Skill Acquisition:- You could learn within these 3 - 6 months of this strike, skills like Barbing, Baking,Catering, Braiding&Fixing/Weaving, Bead Making, Decoration etc which are skills desperately needed by students on campus and easy to start with little capital, which will help you generate extra income aside what you are given from home? Olawale Ojo a 400Level Agronomy student of LAUTECH and The MTN PROJECT FAME WEST AFRICA WINNER FOR 2013 said ASUU strke has being a blessing to me because it has helped me in discovering my talent and launching me into the world of fame even as a GSM repairer on Campus as a University Undergraduate. So My Fellow Nigerian students do not be frustrated or loose focus because of ASUU/ASUP strike rather, let it be a blessing to your life in discovering yourself and exploring your potentials in achieving greatness. As for me My Future, depends on God,Positive Thinking, Faith, Talent, Innovation and ability to identify opportunities and exploring them even as a University Undergraduate. Remember No Pain, No Gain and God has given me a special sense and not a common sense because you will only achieve common things with common senses. Finally, discover yourself during these ASUU/ASUP STRIKE, and explore your potentials. God BLESS YOU ALL Am Proudly Chimeremeze! Am Proudly IMO STATE!! Am Proudly Nigerian!!!
