The N100 billion is expected to address needs of the universities in the areas which include re-furbishing and renovation of lecture theatres and lecture halls, re-furbishing and renovation of laboratories/libraries and the renovation of hostels. He added: “The committee is meeting again on Monday, and by Monday (today), the document will be out. EVERYBODY IS SEEKING HIS/HER SELF INTEREST. GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE SURE THE OLD PROFESSORS DON’T EMBEZZLE THE MONEY. THEY CUT US OFF IN-BETWEEN OUR EXAMS EVEN AT THE VC’S ORDER THAT WE SHOULD WRITE OUR EXAMS. NOW THE OLD CARGOES WOULD NOT ALLOW US DO OUR DEFENSE BECAUSE OF THEIR SELFISH AMBITIONS POSSIBLY BECAUSE THEIR CHILDREN ARE ALL SCHOOLING ABROAD. THEY DON’T KNOW THE PAINS WE STUDENTS PASS THROUGH HAVING PREPARED FOR EXAMS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT SOME CORE ASUU MEMBERS REFUSED SUBMITTING THEIR QUESTION PAPERS.LETS WAIT AND SEE HOW THEY WILL IMPLEMENT THE MONEY FOR THE PURPOSE TO WHICH IT IS SENT. Jay August 19, 2013 at 1:27 am - Reply It is not all about giving out this money to the universities. What is important is monitoring the spending of the money by the university authorities. There are so many atrocities going on in public institutions in the country and the regulatory bodies pretends not to see nor hear anything. If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will definitely kill us in this country. this is my submission. Ndidi August 19, 2013 at 5:48 am - Reply You have said it! The civil servants who should give out the money may well steal it even before it gets to the universities. Then the university senior management may steal the little that comes to them. Nweke Dunkwu August 19, 2013 at 7:57 am - Reply Corruption is the problem with Nigeria and the cause of our poverty in the midst of plenty. Started by our politicians by election rigging, sustained in government and the civil service and condonned in virtually all government institutions, it has assumed epidermic proportions in our country. Virtually all oil revenue is stolen by the politicians and their accomplices in the civil service and business community, leaving nothing for services relevant to the majority of Nigerians. There is no money for good roads, electricity, education, etc, because the conscienceless politicians we have in this country do not see anything wrong in taking for themselves that which belongs to all Nigerians. There is no need to be rude to university professors, who are more deserving citizens of Nigeria than the useless motor park touts turned politicians we have in government; most university dons are not in university administration. The university system cannot be separated from the pervading corruption but it is less than elsewhere as uncorrupted members make life difficult for the bad eggs. This does not happen in many other institutions where a conspiracy of silence is the order of the day. As long as politician don’t care a damn about asset declaration as demanded by the Constitution, so long will corruption reign supreme and so long will Nigeria lag behind in meaningful development.
