AT LEAST THEY’RE TALKING Over the past couple of months, we have shared with you a variety of comments from Frankfort decision-makers about our KERS non-hazardous pension funding crisis. In some cases, legislators have taken pains to try to shift blame from themselves for failing to fund the ARC. “We passed what the governor gave us.” “KRS didn’t calculate the ARC properly.” Blah.blah.blah. But at least legislators are still talking about the funding crisis. At least they are implicitly acknowledging that SB 2 didn’t solve the funding problem, and that the KERS non-hazardous fund is in a fragile state, at least in the near term. As we’ve pointed out repeatedly, the full ARC adds maybe $50 to $100 million to a KERS non-hazardous fund that is losing $200 million annually. Yesterday, we posted the comments of probable gubernatorial candidate James Comer on KRS. We need to aggressively seek out candidate positions/statements from all the other gubernatorial office seekers. We need to take every opportunity to keep the pension funding crisis alive as a policy discussion. Pay attention to your pension.
