AT THE GLAD: Sun 21st September: Alani Charal/ Bouche/ Abbey Bowden This is a very special Sunday night for us- Alani Charal has collaborated with an impressive array of established artists, from Blur to Nitin Sawhney during her illustrious career in music. Currently producing her debut album, with help from Andrew Hale (Sade) and Damon Albarn, she blends the melancholic romanticism of 1940′s swing ballads with a contemporary soul edge. Songs of true depth are sung by a wonderfully rich and soulful voice to match- shes played for us twice so far on our Sunday Sessions and completely enchanted all present. She plays tonight with a four piece ensemble- this is definitely not one to miss. Alani Charal onstage at 9.00 pm Combining banjo, percussion, trumpet and double bass, Bouche are a product of the same London roots scene as Whiskey Moon Face and Brooke Sharkey. This wonderfully talented band blend the spirits of blues queens Billie Holiday and Bessie Smith and the cinematic smokey folk and jazz noir of Tom Waits, wrap it all in a cloak of finely crafted contemporary songwriting, and deliver it with charismatic panache from singer Rebekah Bouche. https://youtube/watch?v=IK89gSXfb4Y Bouche onstage at 8.00 pm A vocal timbre that ranges from the power of Sinead OConnor to the smokey soul of Stevie Nicks and a highly original writing style mark Abbey Bowden out as a very talented new young singer/songwriter on the London folk scene. Her enigmatic style has depth and mystery that can make your spine tingle, shes a truly unique voice. youtube/watch?v=RcZ2AoPRUNg Abbey Bowden onstage at 7.15 pm
