***ATTENTION BLACK PEOPLE*** Tonight is precisely why you should hate BET, and be incensed at our lack of a media ownership presence. This entire story is being told from the white perspective, unless you are an avid and persistent user of twitter. When I used to talk about opening a black network to compete with CNN, a lot of people would turn up their noses. They couldnt understand what black news would be about... TONIGHT, you will see looting, violence, explanation, and analysis of this event from every perspective your favorite network can think of. But it will ALL be from the perspective of the larger community. The point of view will ALWAYS be to gawk at the violence. You will never see a sustained, authentic, credible perspective from the communitys point of view. We will always be the outsiders, the ones who need to be explained, and the ones who are disturbing the so-called peace. THAT perspective can only be provided by a strong black media. In the same way the Fox News frames the world in a conservative, and Republican filter -- YOU have a filter. But if you are always they, and never us, ... then you are never the subject of the conversation.
