ATTENTION FACEBOOK FRIENDS - As the field of health and science continues to advance, the average life span lengthens. With the lengthened life span there is a noted increase in Alzheimers disease. Can you imagine waking up every day, looking in the mirror and not recognizing the person you see; or having your son or daughter visit you and you cant remember their names or who they are. What if you woke up every morning with your husband in bed beside you and became frightened because you didnt know who he was and you thought he had broken in your house and reaped you? This disease is REAL! It is affecting more and more people each year. In my field of work, I witness daily the panic, anxiety and fear that patients with Alzheimers disease experience each day. I also witness the depression that the spouse of these patients suffer as their husband/wife of 50-60 years pushes them away because they no longer recognize them. Children of these patients visit less and less until they no longer visit at all because they dont understand why mom/dad doesnt even know their name. This disease is beyond horrible. Scientist are working every day to study this mentally-physically debilitating disease, what causes it and what may cure it. They have made huge strides toward understanding the disease but have yet to discover how to prevent or stop it. Each year I am part of a very large team who dedicates itself to raising money to help aide continued research. I join this team in memory of my grandmother, Betty Jane Langley Cornwell Mullins who passed away in 2008 from health complications that were enhanced by her dementia.
