ATTENTION: General News of Thursday, 13 February 2014 Source: tv3network Ghana improves in World Press Freedom Index Video Journalists Ghana made an improvement in the 2014 World Press Freedom Index released by Reporters Without Borders, a France-based international organisation that promotes and defends freedom of information and freedom of the press. In the latest ranking released on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, Ghana moved up three places from 30th last year to 27th this year. Ghana’s position was better than those of countries like the United Kingdom (33), United States of America ((46), France (39) and South Africa (42), which are perceived to have strong pro-freedom-of-information policies. It was categorised as satisfactory. Ghana, however, remained Africa’s third-ranked media-friendly country after Namibia (22) and Cape Verde (24). Finland, the Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg and Andorra continue to the lead the pack as the world’s media-friendliest countries. China’s 175th ranking put the rising Asian country in the “very serious” category, which also has countries in the Horn of Africa. Comments:
