ATTENTION HOUSTON! BARC has breaking news! This holiday season, we want to get our pets something extra special: a brand new mobile adoption trailer! Why? Because we want to give our furbabies another opportunity to find a forever home! Plus, we want to give Houstonians everywhere more access to our adoptable pets. This means more saved lives. The new mobile adoption trailer will hold more than 40 animals and we can visit a new location of Houston almost every week! To make it happen, we need your help! The adoption trailer will cost $60,000. This is a really big goal, so every donation counts! We set up a gofundme account (see below) so you can watch our progress as we reach the goal! Houston has one of the largest homeless animal populations in the country. As the only open admission shelter within the City of Houston, we are required to take in every single dog or cat that comes through our doors. That means we take in more than 25,000 animals every year; sometimes up to 150 in a single day. Through our outreach programs, thousands of animals find their forever homes annually. Now were ready to take it to the next level with a mobile adoption trailer so that we can save more lives than ever starting in 2015. Since BARCs massive transformation in 2009, the shelters monthly live release rate has gone from the single digits to up to nearly 72 percent in the Spring of 2014. Over 2,400 more animals have been saved at BARC so far in 2014 than the entire year in 2013. Its exciting to see our programs growing so quickly, but there are thousands more to save.
