**ATTENTION LARIMER COUNTY RESIDENTS** Public Service Announcement from Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority Starting today, August 18, 2014, residents of Larimer County will be able to send text messages to 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. This service is only available with certain cell phone carriers and only in Larimer County at this time. CALL IF YOU CAN.....TEXT IF YOU MUST! Texting 9-1-1 should be reserved for the following types of scenarios: 1) Caller is deaf, hearing or speech impaired, 2) Caller is facing a threatening situation and a voice call could increase the threat, 3) The caller is injured and can not speak, 4) The caller is in a remote location and can only send out a text message. Only two percent of all 9-1-1 dispatch centers across the nation are capable of receiving a text to 9-1-1 message. LETA911 is pleased to join the 2% to open this communication path to our citizens, our visitors and our community. An announcement and demonstration of text to 9-1-1 will be held today at 2 p.m. at Fort Collins Police Services, 2221 Timberline Rd, Fort Collins, CO 80525. For more information and to see if your cell phone company offers this service, please visit leta911.org. Please SHARE and help get the word out to your Larimer County friends! ow.ly/AscrX
