PHYSICAL PAIN, MECHANICAL DEVICES, METHODS OF REHABILITATION, MEDICAL TREATMENT, CAREFUL REGULATION OF DIET AND ACTIVITY ENABLE MANY INDIVIDUAL DISABLED TO LIVE NORMAL LIVES IN MANY REPECTS. BUT ASIDE FROM HOW NEARLY NORMAL BODY FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE MAY BE, THE PRESENCE OF DISABILITY CREATES THE POTENCIAL FOR MANY PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS. WHY? FACTORS AFFECTING ADJUSTMENT SATISFACTORY SOLUTIONS ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE PROCESS OF ADJUSTMENT, A TERM USED TO DESCRIBE THE CHANGES AN INDIVIDUAL UNDERGOES IN ORDER TO ADAPT TO THE ENVIRONMENT. ADJUSTMENT BEGINS AT BIRTH AND IS A CONTINUOUS PROCESS THROUGHOUT LIFE. CERTAIN INNATE FACTORS, THE RESULT OF INHERITANCE, INFLUENCE THE KIND OF ADJUSTMENT THAT IS MADE IN RESPONSE TO THE STIMULI OF THE ENVIRONMENT. THESE FACTORS ARE: INTELLIGENCE- DETERMINES THE AMOUNT OF QUALITY OF THE DIRECTION AND CONTROL OF BEHAVIOR. e.g. AN INTELLIGENT CHILD IS BETTER ABLE TO DIRECT OR CONTROL PERSONAL BEHAVIOR. Greater ability to reason enables the results of certain actions to be anticipated and acted upon accordingly. Less likely to resort to undesirable behavior to achieve ends. WHEREAS CHILDREN WHO ARE MENTALLY INCAPABLE (MR) are often able to learn socially acceptable behavior, but in new and unexpected circumstances they are unable to apply the learned behavior. PHYSICAL APPEARANCE AN IMPORTANT FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF BEHAVIOR TENDENCIES BECAUSE OF THE RESPONSES OF OTHERS TO PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS SUCH AS BODY BUILD, FACIAL FEATURES, AND OBVIOUS DEFORMITIES. OR EVEN HEIGHT OR WEIGHT CAUSE OTHERS TO RESPOND WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TEASING. PARENT REACTION PARENTS OF A NEWBORN CHILDREN WHO ARE DISABLED EXPERIENCE GRIEF FOR TWO REASONS, FIRST, GRIEF ASSOCIATED WITH LOST OF EXPECTED NORMAL CHILD,SECONDLY THE PARENTS NEED TIME TO ADJUST TO THE CHILD ACTUALLY BORN TO THEM. THE STAGES DENIAL, ANGER, BARGAINING, DEPRESSION, ACCEPTANCE SIBLING REACTION HAVING A SIBLING WITH A DISABILITY IS DIFFERENT AND MAY LEAD TO EMBARRASSMENT IF THEIR FRIENDS MAKE INSENSITIVE REMARKS. SOME YOUNG PEOPLE AVOID CONFRONTATIONS BY NOT BRINGING THEIR FRIENDS HOME, AVOIDING FAMILY OUTINGS TO PUBLIC PLACE. GUILT NEGATIVE FEELINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT DISABLED FEAR THAT SOMEDAY THEY WILL BECOME THE PARENT WITH DISABILITY.ALTHOUGH MANY SIBLINGS HAVE SPOKEN VERY POSITIVELY ABOUT THEIR WITH THEIR BROTHER OR SISTER WITH A DISABILITY. PEER REACTION ACCEPTANCE OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES AND THE CONCEPT OF INTEGRATION ARE NOT ENOUGH. SCHOOLS MUST ASSIST STUDENTS WITHOUT DISABILITIES TO IMPROVE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF DISABLING CONDITIONS AND PERSONS WITH VARIOUS DISEASES. TEACHER REACTION AS TEACHERS FIIND IT NECESSARY TO ENROL IN GRADUATE COURSES OR IN-SERVICE WORKSHOP TO RECEIVE MORE FORMAL TRAINING IN THE FIELD OF ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION. TO BECOME MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE NEEDS AND LEARN THE SUBTLE BUT IMPORTANT DISTINCTION BETWEEN EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY(UNDERSTANDING NOT SORROW) Have some more readings and be conscious on the daily life situation you encounter at home, dormitory, mall, resto etc. so you will understand more why such individual exhibit such behavior. participate actively in the discussions.
