ATTN: ALL NIAGARA COUNTY FIRST RESPONDERS There will be (2) informational sessions regarding the delay of the County Communications Initiative resulting from the stop work order issued by the Town of Lewiston. Both the Community Safety & Security Meeting (1700hrs) and the Administration meeting (1800hrs) will focus on this topic. DATE: Monday September 8, 2014. LOCATION: Legislative Chambers, 175 Hawley St., Lockport You are invited to attend and listen in on where the project stands and what the plans are going forward. The delay by the Town of Lewiston affects EVERY first responder in the County. Be there to show your support for this program. Why should you care? The failure of emergency communications was a fact brought to light by the sacrifices on 9/11. As a result, the 9/11 Commission Report recommended Allocation of more radio spectrum and improved connectivity for public safety communications. 13 years later in Niagara County we are still operating on a pre 9/11 system. But this isnt just about a terrorist threat, its about enabling ALL first responders (police & fire) to communicate better during EVERY emergency response. This Federally Mandated Communications Initiative is meant to significantly upgrade the radios and dispatch system for the 28 volunteer fire companies and 2 volunteer ambulance services in the County, as well as the City of North Tonawanda Fire Department. In addition, it will also upgrade and integrate the communication for the Sheriff’s Office (the lead agency) between the five Town and Village Police Departments, (Lewiston, Town of Niagara, Youngstown, Barker, Middleport); as well as communicating with several other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Cant make it? You can also contact your local county legislator or the Town of Lewiston Supervisor with your concerns or questions about this delay. Lewiston Town Supervisor: Dennis J. Brochey (716) 754-8213, ext. 224 email: [email protected] SHARE THIS POST WITH OTHER FIRST RESPONDERS! Its about time our needs were heard.
