August 2014 calendar by Mónica Veronica! Download 11x17 poster here https://sendspace/file/mcjbk2 Post constructive feedback and ideas for the future in your comments! Our monthly printed Cincinnati DIY calendar... ...promotes a gathering of all local events and resources Do It Yourself which can pertain to our arts and music, social activism and politics, food, clothing, transportation, homes, technology, any kind of how-tos available without exclusivity in our community. ...supports venues that are largely under-acknowledged by local mainstream media, with emphasis on a resistance to age restriction, emphasis on not-for-profit, and seeking alternatives to reliance on conventional bar culture. ...takes a firm stance against oppressive content and abstains from promoting any activity or attitudes identified as such. Our endorsements are widely diverse, but they must have a common goal in the pursuit of safe spaces and resistance to oppression. Want to directly participate in this project? Here are the jobs involved... Gathering information on upcoming events and activities, by any means, the less already represented by established media the better. We aim to collect all info for a coming month by the 25th. Fact-checking / proofreading this information to make it as accurate as possible (given its often transient nature) Again, deadline to ensure info is successfully included is the 25th of each month! Art / design: Each month a different local artist creates a headline and boarder for the next calendar. Header should read Cincinnati DIY then the month and year. The bottom of this art should include our current website and email. Everything else is whatever you want! To enable efficient organization, a template is available, but artists are welcome to deviate from this format provided coherency is maintained. This art should be created throughout the month, adhering to a similar deadline of the 25th in order to have copies made in time for the start of the next month. Artwork that misses this deadline will be replaced by a backup calendar well have standing by in case of emergency (additional artists welcome to create these backup calendars, leaving empty space for month/year) Copying the calendar; keeping costs from low to none so that money will never stop this project from happening. This must be done before the month ends, so between the 25th and 30th in most cases. Digitally this can also mean sharing a file of it as widely as possible. Distribution: So crucial. Without distributing the calendars all this effort is totally in vain. As soon as copies are made, volunteers are needed to pick up calendars and deliver to various neighborhoods. Put them in windows and on bulletin boards; hand them out at events! This should be done BY the 1st of the coming month, otherwise our calendar will be useless and not worth all the energy needed to make it exist. If you cannot physically distribute, do as much as possible with its digital image. The more our calendar is seen around town, the more people will want to collaborate and develop it, so recognize distribution as a pivotal tool to promote inclusivity and a sharing of both the work and the celebration this project entails!
