AUCTIONS PLUS MARKET REPORT Cattle numbers contracted sharply this week to only 1,923 head, our smallest offering since the market turned; however, these numbers were still enough to attract 121 buyers into today’s auction. Sheep and lamb numbers dropped by 11,000 to total 29,850 head, with first cross ewes and store lambs being the standouts this week. There were fewer sales of weaner steers than we have seen in many weeks; the only sales achieved at auction were for black steers out of Mudgee, with the tops weighing 315kg making 210c or $660, and the 273kg draft achieving the same per kilo rate for a return of $570. Demand to fill export orders has inflated prices for better quality Angus heifers in the past few weeks; today yearling heifers weighing 307kg made $560 or 182c. Weaner heifer prices also firmed, ranging from 161c to a top of 179c for 232kg Angus and Black Baldy heifers. Cows with calves at foot made to $1160 for Hereford heifers out of Walcha with Brangus calves at foot. Charolais/Brahman heifers in calf to Angus at Armidale sold for $900.
