AUDITION TIME! Save these dates: September 7 & 8 Mask & Mirror Community Theatre will hold auditions for “Play On,” a farce by Rick Abbot, on Sunday and Monday, September 7 & 8, from 7-9 pm in the Celebration Center at Calvin Church, 10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard. Appointments are not necessary. Performances run Nov 7-Nov 23, Fri & Sat @ 7:30pm, Sun @ 2pm. “Play On” a farce by Rick Abbot Directed by Harry McClane A small community theater group is trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does. When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax to this thoroughly hilarious romp. Character List: Aggie Manville – Stage Manager and prompter Geraldine (Gerry) Dunbar – A community theater director Henry Benish – “Lord Dudley” – a character actor Polly Benish – “Lady Margaret” – a character actress Marla (Smitty) Smith – “Doris the Maid” – a supporting player Saul Watson – “Doctor Rex Forbes” – a villain Billy Carewe – “Stephen Sellers” a Juvenile Violet Imbry – “Diane Lassiter” an Ingénue Louis Peary – a sound – and – lighting – and – scenic technician Phyllis Montague – a novice playwright in the community With the exception of Billy and Violet (who have to appear young) all the other player’s ages will be at the discrimination of the Director… Note: All actors in the “Play Within a Play” will need to mimic bad English accents badly, very badly, (think Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, or Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves)… “Head Shots” and resumes are welcome but not mandatory…. Readings will be from the play, with a little ‘Improv’ (if the mood strikes me)… (says the Director!) Additional information at info@MaskandMirror or 503-524-2058 Mask & Mirror is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit theatre and all positions on and off stage are unpaid. AND LOOKING AHEAD….
