It is these you ought to have practiced. -- --- ---- Matthew 23 : 23 I chanced upon a single mother arguing with her teenage son who felt neglected because he thought she loved his younger sister more. Ten years earlier, she had run away from her abusive hus - band, bringing her baby girl with her, and tearfully leaving her sev- en - year - old boy in the care of relatives. Reunited with her son after so long, the mother was shocked to find him angry. Love can hardly be understood without a continuing exchange of caring and loving service to one another. The mere sending home of a little money for his upkeep did not suffice to replace the mothering he needed. In our dealings with GOD, we may be doing what is out= wardly necessary : going to weekly Mass, singing to the choir, even tithing. But if the weightier things like righteous living, being forgiv - ing and trusting in GOD are lacking, especially in dealing with others, is there real love for GOD ? As 1 John 4 : 20 says, Those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, can- not love GOD whom they have not seen. --- NELIA
