AUSTRIA: Scalaria Floatplanes Show; Red Bull Museum; Optional Trip to Konigsee & The Eagles Nest DAY 1: FRIDAY, 3rd JULY Meet your Ian Allan Tour Manager at London’s Gatwick Airport. We depart at 10:25 on British Airway’s scheduled service to Salzburg, flight BA 2652, arriving at 14:55. We transfer by private coach to see the excellent collection of aircraft in Red Bull’s Hanger 7; like our previous group, we also hope to be given access to their normally restricted Hanger 8. Also on display is a collection of their Formula 1 grand prix racing cars. We then check in to the Hotel Mercure Salzburg City, staying 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis. It has a on-site restaurant and bar and is located in the centre of the city in peaceful, leafy surroundings. DAY2: SATURDAY, 4th JULY Leaving the hotel at 09.00 we set off for Wolfgangsee, about a 45-minutes drive to the east, the venue for the annual Scalaria Air Challenge airshow. The official flying programme starts at 13.00 and past shows have featured floatplanes large and small. There might be an optional flight in a Dornier Do-24 ATT, and/or other types, when participation known. Early evening we arrive back at the hotel. DAY 3: SUNDAY, 5th JULY At 09.00 depart for Schonau a. Konigssee. Those wishing to spend the day on the observation terrace at Salzburg Airport will be dropped off there, or you may transfer to /from the airport at a time of your own choosing and expense. Having travelled through some spectacular Austrian and Bavarian scenery we arrive at Konigsee (lake); the morning is free with the opportunity to enjoy a fabulous, optional, cruise: only bookable on the day, definitely recommended. Lunch, at your own expense, can be taken at one of the many restaurants located in the village and on the lakeshore. At midday we continue on to Obersaltzberg, to the Hinterneck parking area. Here we join an English-speaking tour and board the special coach for the road leading from Obersalzberg (formerly Hitlers home and southern headquarters) to the Eagles Nest parking lot: as you will see the road’s construction is a feat of engineering! Perched at 6,017ft, (1,834m) the building itself was a project of Martin Bormanns and given to Adolf Hitler for his 50th birthday as a teahouse for diplomats. The Eagles Nest remained unscathed from the bombings by the Allied Forces during WWII, and since 1952 it has been open to the public as a mountain- top restaurant with a spectacular views. Due to its high elevation the Eagles Nest is open in summer only, usually from about mid-May through October. A truly memorable visit. The price for this fabulous, full day excursion is £62.00 each and includes the coach and a guided tour to the Eagle’s Nest. At around 17.00 we depart for hotel, picking up any members of the group from Salzburg airport. DAY 4: MONDAY, 6th JULY This morning you are free to enjoy some leisure time in Salzburg; or travel out to the airport, at your own expense, and spend some time on the observation terrace. At 11.30 our coach departs for Salzburg Airport and we check in with British Airways for flight BA 2653 to Gatwick, departing at 14.00; scheduled arrival time is 14.55.
