AVBOB Proud Sponsor of the SASCE 2013 South African School Choir Eisteddfod grooms learners for music career Thousands of learners from across the country are expected to take up the stage to battle for the top spot in the South African School Choral Eisteddfod (SASCE) competition.The national championships are taking place at Rhema Church, Randburg, from Tuesday, 02 July until Friday, 05 July 2013. SASCE is a platform for learners to socialise while competing for national championship in choral music. The choral festival happens during school holidays. Through this competition the Department of Basic Education and its partner departments aim to expose learners to music as a career while using it to cultivate social cohesion and harmony. This is an opportunity for learners and conductors to showcase their talents at a national platform. The role of SASCE competition in the schooling system has been acknowledged by many teachers in the country. The learners that participate in the competition are protected from involvement in drug and aubstance abuse and other illegal activities.This has positive impact towards campaigns such as stop rape campaign and child protection initiatives. The SASCE competition targets learners who are passionate about music and whose talents were never heard in the public space. The competition, which is renowned of its popularity among learners, was established in 2001with intention to improve school music competitions. Learners are encouraged to follow their motto “SASCE Champions go to school, stay at school and ACHIEVE” In its 12th year, SASCE remains one of the most crucial school enrichment programmes that promote unity in diversity, national reconciliation, a new South African National Identity, social transformation and social cohesion among learners. Preparations for 2013 SASCE competition are underway.All provinces are currently finalising their provincial competitions, which will determine their representatives at the national championships. In the previous year, the competition drew 9000 learners from various schools across the country. The Department encourages parents, teachers and all stakeholders to come to Rhema Ministries in the four days of the competition to support their choirs and enjoy music.
