Multi-Camera Gallery Production Assistants (JB) 1st September – 3rd October 2014 The Gallery Production Assistant is the administrative heart at the centre of a TV production. Prior to a production, the PA prepares and times the script, logs pre-recorded material, sound effects, captions, clears copyright and deals with any other administrative issues. During a recording, the PA is responsible for setting up pre-recorded material in the studio gallery; keeping track of timings during a programme; calling the shots from the camera script and generally liaising with the crews on the floor and in the gallery. Multi-Camera Production with Vision Mixing (JB) 1st September – 3rd October 2014 The role of the Vision Mixer is to edit (cut) programmes as they are being recorded. These programmes will either be transmitted live or pre-recorded for future broadcast. Using a variety of transition methods including cuts, wipes, mixes and frame manipulation; Vision Mixers join together images from various visual sources including cameras, pre-recorded material, graphic and digital video effects. Multi-Camera Studio Camera Operator (JB) 1st September – 3rd October 2014 A typical multi-camera shoot has several camera operators each operating one of several cameras capturing images at the same time. Supervised by a senior Camera Operator, a camera crew must be able to multi-task, watch, listen and think on their feet while receiving instructions over a headset from the director, based in the “gallery”, away from the set. These directions inform the operator where to position the camera, how to frame shots and how to move the camera during a recording. Camera operators must be able to translate these instructions into carefully composed and framed shots, without hesitation. Multi-Camera Studio Floor Manager (JB) 1st September – 3rd October 2014 The Floor Manager acts as the liaison person between the production team and the crew. He/she is also responsible for ensuring proper organisation and communication between the studio floor and the recording gallery and is responsible for making sure both cast and crew arrive on time. There is a lot of pre-production and planning for any recording session, for which the Floor Manager is responsible. The floor manager ensures that events go according to a set plan and that people taking part know their particular roles and how it fits in with whatever else is happening, from pre-rehearsal to wrap. Multi-Camera Studio Sound Recording (JB) 1st September – 3rd October 2014 On Multi-camera productions, the sound team consists of the Sound Supervisor, the Boom Operator and Sound Assistants. Sound Supervisors mix all the various sound sources playing into the programme and supervise the rest of the sound team. Boom Operators work with all the studio equipment necessary to record good sound and Sound Assistants help with placing personal microphones on anyone appearing in front of the camera. During this course you will learn the core skills required for these three roles. Storyboarding & Previz Artiste Intake 1: 25th August – 12th September 2014 Intake 2: 22nd September – 10th October 2014 The Storyboard Artist translates a screenplay, or sequences from screenplays, into a series of illustrations in comic book form. Depending on individual Directors and their requirements, Storyboard Artists usually start work early in the production process. In addition to storyboarding, 3D previsualization is often required for more complex scenes, or for action sequences in a film. Previsualization blends the artistic skills of a storyboard artist with the technical skills of a 3D animator. Previsualization allows the Director to understand how a sequence of shots will look once shot and cut together by an editor.
