Aaron McDermott: Listings without listings? I just took a look at the Latitude Realty website.(latitudeco/listingsforsale.asp) I noticed that Aaron and Brett McDermott have several listings in Gary. One of them is an office building at 201 E. 5th Avenue. The owner listed by the Lake County Assessor is DW&P, LLC. The Indiana Secretary of State has no listing for such an entity--past or present. It is however known that this building is owned by Willie Harris Jr., and that this LLC, whether legitimately organized or not, is actually he and his wife Dharathula. This can be shown by a 2007 bankruptcy petition filed in the Northern District of Indiana. On this petition, it lists DW&P,LLC only as “a” corporation. It would be standard procedure on such a petition to identify it as an “Indiana” corporation. (or whatever the state might be) The current mayor of Gary, Karen Freeman-Wilson, still lists this building as the address of her law practice on her Facebook page as of today. Willie Harris Jr. was recently released from prison following his involvement in the GUEA-based fraud scheme that sent he and his cohorts to federal prison. It is unknown at this time who the “P” in the name of the seemingly unformed LLC represents. There has been speculation in the past that it could be Peter Pan; or others have speculated that it may stand for Powell (Roosevelt). It is probably common knowledge by now that the Mayor was the attorney for the GUEA organization during the entire time that this fraud scheme which sent numerous individuals to federal prison took place. A check of the Lake County Treasurer’s website reveals that there are currently $491,261.44 in overdue taxes being charged to the property. The Latitude Realty listing is offering the property for sale at an asking price of $240,000.00. This begs the question: How will there be enough money left from the proceeds of the sale to transfer clear title to any buyer? Apparently, someone involved in this transaction is confident that they can get this teensy-weensy problem taken care of; otherwise, what would be the point of listing it for sale in the first place?
