‘Abducted’ cop returns safely in Srinagar Srinagar: A police man who was allegedly abducted by suspected militants in the outskirts of summer capital last evening returned safely on Monday. Saif Qadri, a Special Police Officer (SPO) who is in the escort of Superintendent of Police Hazratbal, went missing from Zakura and was suspected to be abducting by militants. Soon after the cop went missing, forces started massive searches after cordoning off the whole area and also conducted house to house searches, a police official, who wished not to be named, said. Local residents said they heard few gunshots during cordon in the area. “However, we failed to understand who was firing them,” they said. Despite massive searches, police could not find the policeman. “However, the police man returned safely and was not hurt,” a senior police official said. He said so far they are not sure whether militants are behind the incident or not. “We are investigating the matter,” he said. The senior police officer said Qadri was not carrying rifle or identity proof. “We are looking from every angle,” he said adding that they can’t say anything at this moment. (GNS)
