#Abe to inherit past cabinets’ recognition of war history Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he would inherit the past cabinets’ historical recognition of war history, during a statement on Monday. “The Japanese administration has and will inherit statements issued by past cabinets,” Abe said at the New Year press conference in Ise, central Japan, clarifying he would make an official statement at the 70th #WorldWarII anniversary in August. According to Japan’s Kyodo News Agency, Abe also said he would like to “write Japan’s remorse on the war, its postwar history as a pacifist nation and how it will contribute to the Asia-Pacific region and the world.” Not long ago, President of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Shinzo Abe was re-elected as prime minister and formed a new cabinet. Due to Abe’s right-leaning policies during his last term as Japan’s prime minister, people have been questioning how Japan chooses to remember its wartime infringements. Abes past and recent visits to the #YasukuniShrine as well as his administration’s intention to alter the 1993 apology issued by then Chief Cabinet Secretary Yohei Kono over the “comfort women,” have been a particular focal point for China during his time as leader. According to Japan’s NHK television, Tadatomo Yoshida, head of the Social Democratic Party, one of Japan’s left sides, indicated he would request that Prime Minister Abe reflect deeply on the 1995 Murayama Statement, which apologized for the damage and suffering caused by Japans wartime aggressions.
